HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

PE and SPORT PREMIUM FUNDING

SEPTEMBER 2016

 Background

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport, to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. Funding has been allocated to all maintained and state funded schools with primary phase pupils from 1st September 2013. A typical primary school received about £9,250 annually in the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16. Funding has been continued for 2016/17.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Our school

In 2013/14 our school received: £9,775

In 2014/15 our school received: £9,475

In 2015/16 our school received: £9,779

Our allocation for the present year is £9,775

This is how we are using the funding:

  • Employing a qualified coach to lead curriculum PE lessons in EYFS and KS1 and provide CPD opportunities for staff
  • Employing a secondary PE specialist to lead health eating and active lifestyle sessions for UKS2 children
  • Employing a qualified coach to run additional lunchtime and after school sport clubs
  • Employing a specialist gymnastics coach to provide CPD for KS2 staff and after school provision for targeted groups
  • Entering teams in local and regional competitions
  • Providing cover staff to enable teachers to attend professional development in PE and sport
  • Purchasing new equipment to encourage physical activity during playtimes and lunchtimes

 Impact of Sports Funding:

  • Teachers who do not have a specialist qualification in PE have been upskilled and are now more confident in delivering PE
  • The profile of PE has been raised across the school and new opportunities for Sports have been enjoyed by all children
  • Our pupils demonstrate a greater skill set, enthusiasm and enjoyment for Sports and PE across the school
  • Our children are well equipped to make healthy choices and understand the importance of choosing an active lifestyle
